1949 - completed the seven-year course of secondary school ¹2 at “Voskhod” stud-farm;
1952 – completed the ten-year course of secondary school ¹4 at bio-factory No.12 of Krasnodar region Novokubanski district;
1953 – graduated from the 8th Military Aviation School of Pilot Basic Training, Ukraine., Dnepropetrovsk region., Pavlograd town;
1962 – graduated from the A.K. Serov Bataisk Military Aviation Pilot School, the RSFSR., Rostov region., Bataisk town;
1961 - 1968 – student of the N.E. Zhukovsky Higher Military engineering Academy. Graduated qualifiing as “pilot-engineer-cosmonaut”.
OCCUPATION BEFORE JOINING COSMONAUT CORPS:
From August 22, 1956 – a pilot;
From June 22, 1957 – senior pilot of Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment 86 of Odessa Military District, Moldova.

March 7, 1960 - was enrolled as a student-cosmonaut in the Air Force Cosmonaut Training Center by the Air Force commander-in-chief order (the 1st enrollment);
From April 5, 1961 - cosmonaut of the Cosmonaut Training Center Cosmonaut Group.
RATING: Air Force parachute training instructor (1960), a second-class military pilot (1972), a first-class cosmonaut (1980).
BACK-UP ACTIVITY:
February, 1966 – April, 1967 – an engineer-researcher of the Soyuz passive spacecraft back-up crew on the “Docking” program, first with A. Nikolayev and P. Kolodin and from September, 1966 – with A. Nikolayev and V. Kubasov;
June, 1967 – December, 1968 – an engineer-researcher of the Soyuz passive spacecraft back-up crew on the “Docking” program together with A. Nikolayev and V. Kubasov and from August, 1968 – with A. Filipchenko and V. Kubasov;
January 15, 1969 – back-up to the Soyuz-5 spacecraft engineer-researcher Ye. Khrunov;
July-September 30, 1976 – a commander of the back-up crew on the program of the Almaz (“Salyut-5”) Orbital Manned Station Expedition 2together with Yu. Glazkov;
October 14, 1976 – back-up to the Soyuz-32 spacecraft commander V. Zudov;
August 22, 1977 – August 9, 1978 – commander of the back-up visiting crew to the Salyut-6 long-term orbital station together with E. Kelner (GDR);
August 26, 1978 – back-up to the Soyuz-31 spacecraft commander V. Bykovsky.
SPACEFLIGHTS PERFORMED:
The 1st flight – October 12-17, 1969, as an engineer-researcher of the Soyuz-7 spacecraft together with A. Filipchenko and V. Volkov on the program of the group flight of the three Soyuz-6,-7,-8 spacecraft. Docking with the Soyuz-8 spacecraft was not performed. Flight duration: 4 days 22 hours 40 minutes 23 seconds. Call sign: “Buran-3”.
The 2nd flight – February 7-25, 1977, as a commander of the Soyuz-24 spacecraft and the Salyut-5 (“Almaz” Orbital Manned Station-103) Orbital Station together with Yu. Glazkov. Flight duration: 17 days 17 hours 25 minutes 58 seconds. Call sign: “Terek-1”.
The 3rd flight – July 23-31, 1980, as the Soyuz-37 spacecraft commander (landed on the Soyuz-36 spacecraft) on the program of the Salyut-6 long-term orbital station visiting crew together with Pham Tuan (SRV). Worked with L. Popov and V. Riumin on the station. Flight duration: 7 days 20 hours 42 minutes. Call sign: “Terek-1”.
DISCHARGE FROM COSMONAUT CORPS: 1982 - is discharged from the cosmonaut corps because of the appointment to another position.
