Participation of the Center in international scientific tourism development

The Center is authorized to provide services in the framework of its activities. For the past period the Center has gained a great experience in organizing and executing works with foreign partners. International scientific tourism is one of the most promising areas.
While training the so-called “amateur-cosmonauts” get certain knowledge of piloting the Soyuz space vehicle and Mir orbital station, carrying out scientific, technical, bio-medical investigations and experiments in space. The most challenging is that they are offered an opportunity to try the cosmonaut training for space missions under the same conditions that the professionals have, on the same simulators that the experienced cosmonauts utilize, under the supervision of the same instructors who share their knowledge and skills with the crews of space vehicles and orbital stations. And sometimes they might have an opportunity to train shoulder by shoulder with those who have a rank of Pilot-Cosmonaut and who are famous not only in Russia, but also  all over the world. Exactly this fact, first of all, is the very challenge that makes people who usually have nothing to do with space and who live far, far away come to Star City and try that cosmonaut training from inside.
For the first time the Center organized and provided that sort of familiarization training for foreign amateurs at the end of 1990. For the last ten years the Center has gained a certain experience in this kind of activity and more than three thousand Russian and foreign citizens have visited Star City within those programs. The majority of them had four-hour presentation on primary trends of the “space academy” activities.
Upward 250 people (then100 foreigners among them) have received training at the Center under “Space camps” program that implies five to ten day training (duration of training depends on amount of studies agreed with participants).
Within this training period the program participants have an opportunity to: In case of a program participant succeeds in finishing the given training he gets a diploma that certifies his passing the training at the Center.
The services provided by the Center within the scientific tourism training program are listed below.
1. Space flight training and post-flight rehabilitation:
1.1. Training on outer space operation using 1.2. Basic training on fundamentals of spaceflight dynamics, bio-medical aspects of space flights, main systems of manned space vehicles.
1.3. Training on space navigation using the planetarium and specialized trainers.
1.4. Operators training on visual instrumental monitoring from TU-154MLK flying lab and manned space vehicles to solve ecological problems.
1.5. Survival training in different climates and terrain (forest, swamp, tundra, mountain, sea).
1.6. Training on rendezvous and docking operations.
1.7. Training on scientific experiments to be conducted onboard the Mir orbital complex (using ground facilities and simulators).
2. Selection and certification of candidates for cosmonauts according to:
2.1. Bio-medical and psychological criteria  2.2. Evaluation of capacities to carry out different mission tasks (EVA operations, control of space vehicle under space factors effect).
2.3. Examination of the nervous-psychological resistance in closed information environment.
2.4 Evaluation of abilities to work in team.
3. Physical training to improve resistance against space flight factors effect and post-flight rehabilitation.
